The first day of training went very well. My students are from throughout APAC (Asia Pacific) are quite impressive IMO. While they don't have all the skills that I hope to bestow on them before I leave, I can definitely see promise in them and at the end of this 2 week session I suspect they will be ready to really push JBoss in their territories.
Yesterday was Monday in Singapore. It rained in the morning. I had a RedHat shirt on and two of the students Taka-san and Yuhei-san (who insists we all call him Takov) identified me and we all road in the taxi together.
The APAC office in Singapore is nice - though small. Or I should say small in the western sense. It reminds me of what I would traditionally see on anime. Several of my students are from Tokyo and they are frequently talking to one of my students from Singapore who is clearly a fan of mecha/giant robot anime. I am often VERY tempted to join in that conversation, but for now I must show some restraint as I am an anime nut :)
For lunch we ate at what is referred to an 'office cafe'. They aren't in an office building, but are instead like these several story open air structures (sorry left the camera) where you eat cafeteria style - outside. As I mentioned before, Singapore is very humid. One thing that I didn't mention - they have a lot of spicy food. So here we are outside in 90+ degree heat and 70% humidity, eating spicy soup. The soup was great - but man, I can't think of a worse combination. Hmm... come to think of it, I haven't eaten anything since then. I need to find food while these pictures upload. Hopefully something in the hotel is open at 3:40AM.
